So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Joe Barna Wheaton North 6'3 230 ER/LB Class Of 2024

Joe Barna how was your sophomore season? My sophomore season went well. I feel like I stepped up as a leader on my sophomore team and played a pretty good regular season. I feel like I added a lot to my game when playoffs came around. I learned a lot from the older guys which helped me get on the field and win a state championship. What does football mean to you? Football means so much to me. It is an escape from life where I get to be with my friends and where I get to hit people. It also makes me a better person by challenging me mentally and physically. It gives me a change to be a leader and make others better. What should college coaches know about you? College coaches should know my love for the game. They should know that I give 100% percent at practice, games and in the weight room. They should know my willingness to get better and improve and my determination to make others around me better too. What do you like about playing on defense? I like playing defense because I get to make big hits and because it brings the team together for one sole purpose of tackling the defender. Wheaton North’s ideology is called “Swarm” which mean everyone on the field breaks down on the offender and we make the tackle as a group. I believe that’s why defense is great. What part of your game have you been working on in the offseason? I would say I’ve definitely been working on power and explosiveness and getting in the weight-room. I have put on 10 pounds since the end of the season to get up to 230lbs. What goals do you have for yourself this season? Some goals I have for myself is to be a better leader, be All conference, win a back-to-back state championship in the 7A class, put on more mass and get faster/explosive, and to get Division 1 college interest/offers.
