Diego Vela Nazareth DL/OL Class of 2022 5'11 250

Diego Vela how is your season going so far? There’s definitely been a lot of adversity early on but it’s starting to turn around from the first game being moved from guard to tackle I had to adjust on the fly and then going 0-3 this past game against Norte Dame definitely gave us our confidence back. All the pieces connected especially on the offensive line, we handled our responsibilities and I think the best has yet to come. What does football mean to you? It means a lot I was the first person ever in the family to start playing football and learning the game. It taught me lessons that I could take away from the game and apply to everyday life. Especially being the oldest of 5 it gave me some of those leadership qualities. Also knowing I have 4 younger brothers watching my every move. I put my energy towards being the best I can in football to set the bar so high so that they know what’s possible for them and now I see them playing and following in my footsteps so this game has really taught me life lessons and created the relationships I have with my younger brothers and motivates me to keep going through the highs and lows What should college coaches know about you? I won’t quit, I could lose a rep and get back up without being down on myself rather motivated to get up and win the next rep. I will keep push my teammates to be the best they can do the team succeeds. Off the field I take pride in my academics and want to succeed on and off the field What do you feel is your strongest trait on the field? My grit on offense I block through the whistle and on defense I don’t stop trying to get through to the ball. I watch film to study the defenses and offenses tendencies to know and plan in my head how. I’m gonna block or get passed the guy in front of me based of what he does and just keep going head to head never giving up until I hear that whistle. What do you like about playing in the trenches? The battle throughout the game..... it’s just you and the guy in front of you and you find out who’s the better and nastier player is. I like the fact that if he beats me, I don’t need to wait more than a minute to line up against him again and try to beat him. It’s a different level of competition that really drives me to want to win every rep.
