Talking With Marist Athlete Darrell Jackson-Mitchell Class Of 2024

By: Peter "Coach Big Pete" Leinweber

So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Darrall Jackson-Mitchell, how has your season been so far?

My season has been good so far coach. It has definitely been a learning experience playing my first year and starting on varsity. I’ve had some obstacles to overcome, but in the end, they have really improved my game and helped shape my future football career What has been your favorite memory so far this season? The obvious choice would be beating our rivals from down the street, Brother Rice. Being able to celebrate with my team after the game was an amazing feeling, however, I wasn’t able to play due to an injury. For my own personal memory, I would say playing against Mt. Carmel was my favorite because I was able to compete against my best friends. Even though it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, it was still great to play against my youth teammates for the first time.

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field?

I think my best traits are my speed & my physical abilities. I love to come up and make a hit on the ball carrier!

What should college coaches know about you? I will always work hard on and off the football field. I make sure that before anything, school comes first. I also love to take time to study the game and put myself in the best position to succeed. What position do you feel most comfortable at? I am most comfortable playing at Cornerback, but I also can play Safety depending on the set. I also look forward to working on my Slot/WR craft like I did my first two years at Marist. What part of your game do you plan on working on in the offseason?

Overall being a ball hawk. Working on my pursuit to the football and attacking it in the air... also getting some work in the weight room.

How far can this Marist squad go in the playoffs? I believe we can go all the way. We have some of the best athletes in the state and I feel that when we minimize the small mistakes and play as 11 guys together, we are unbeatable.
