Payton Gavaldon Lane Tech WR Class of 2022 6'3 170
Payton Gavaldon how was your Spring Season? As a season, I’m really grateful we had a season. We only played 3 games due to covid but it was a great opportunity to get a few more games in with our seniors and get to spend time working with our new coach. After a tough year being stuck inside and loosing our season, it was huge to play even a few games. As a player however, I wish there was more I could have done in season. I didn’t have many catches, no touchdowns, and not much film from the few games we played. With a new system in play, I was asked to play a more team roll in which I was forced to improve on my off the ball skills most importantly blocking. It really put in perspective where I am now and what goals I want for me and my teams final season. What does football mean to you?To me football is a big test of who you are. Football is a sport that requires everything out of everyone. You need to be both mentally and physically strong. It tests how you act when facing adversity, how you are in a team environment, it test what you will do for team success. To me it is a big lesson teacher that comes in the best form which is a game that you can love, but it is a true test of how hard you want something. What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field?I think my strongest traits are my vision and size. These are two things that you can’t teach and put my at the biggest advantage. My size is something that allows me to catch balls that would be uncatchable to others. Skill can always be improved, but my size is what will set me apart from other receivers. My vision is a strong trait as well due to the fact that I am able to read a field and find holes which makes me able to get into open field and is what makes me such a deadly kick returner. What should college coaches know about you?College coaches should know first of all that I am a student athlete. My GPA shows that. I love football but my education comes first. Coaches get a student before they get a player. They should also know that I am very coachable and always hard working. I make adjustments to help my team win whatever that may be and I will always strive to out work everyone. But before anything football, I am an amazing teammate that supports them before anything. How does Lane Tech look for the upcoming season?Lane Tech should be a team to look out for. Under a new coaching staff and our whole offense returning, Lane Tech shouldn’t be a team people look down on. Lane has struggled in past years but playing in this past spring has shown that we are a different team than in recent years.
