Alex Vannaken Knoxville Linebacker Class of 2021 6'1 200
Alex Vannaken how was your 2019 season? Well, for starters we went 9-0 in the regular season. It was the first time it happened in my high school since 1988. The feeling was indescribable. We put in the work and trusted the guy next to us. I started all nine of those games and the three playoff games that followed. I was the right guard on offense and the middle linebacker on defense. We made a great run in the postseason but it was cut short when we played the soon to be state champions. I can remember every game like it was yesterday and I will always remember playing with that team. What schools have you talked to so far? Augustana College, St. Ambrose University, Monmouth College, Knox College, Sterling College, Elmhurst What should college coaches know about you? I’m an extremely hard worker. I’m also a great teammate, I was voted by my peers to be a team captain my senior year. I’m very coachable and always looking to learn more. Most importantly I want an opportunity to prove myself What do you like about playing linebacker? Personally I think it’s the best position on the field. As a linebacker you are always involved with the play. You could be playing the run, rushing the quarterback, dropping into pass coverage, or manning up a wideout or back. It really is a perfect mix of the other defensive positions. How does Knoxville look for the upcoming season? We could have a repeat of last year depending on when we can play. We have strong returners and for the positions that need filled from last year have people that have put in a crazy amount of work and are ready for the spot. Everyone trust each other and pushes one another to be the best person on and off the field.
