Billy Cernugel how has your Junior season?

The past season was so fun and amazing to be a part of. The thing that makes a football season so fun is that there are so many ups and downs. I enjoyed the grind that it took to get where we got and I cannot wait to do it again next year.

What does football mean to you?

Football means a lot to me. Since I was a kid football has been my favorite sport. First watching and then playing. I started playing as I lineman and then I switched to quarterback. Football has taught me a lot about how to work with others, how to compete, and how to lead. All extremely important traits in becoming successful.

What do you like about playing QB?

The thing that I like most about playing quarterback is that you are a leader on the team. People look up to you, so that means you set a standard for how the team acts. Another thing is that you always have the ability to make a play on the field, running or passing.

What has been your favorite memory this past season?

My favorite memory this season has to be when we played York week 7. York was undefeated at the time and we needed to win this game in order to still be alive to win the conference. We were down 16 going into the fourth. The team never gave up and we ended up scoring three touchdowns in the fourth for the comeback win.

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field?

I believe my strongest trait on the field is my ability to improvise. Having that sense of when it is time to leave the pocket and run has been a big part of my game and I think it gives the defense another thing to worry about when preparing for Hinsdale Central.

How good can this Hinsdale Central squad be?

The 2021 team had talent all across the field on both sides of the ball. Our defense was great all year and we knew we could always rely on them. On offense, we had plenty of players that had phenomenal years and multiple players that stepped up big time as we dealt with injuries. Next year I expect this team to start just where we left off. We are all putting in the work to make sure that we extend our playoff run and we all know what the big goal is.

What would you like college coaches to know about you?

I want college coaches to know that I am all in when I do something. When I’m in football season its all about football. Also I just want to win and I will do whatever the team needs in order for the team to win.

What goals do you have for yourself this offseason?

The biggest goal I have this offseason is to get bigger. Hitting the weight room and eating right is going to be huge for a more successful season next year. I also want to get smarter. Being able to understand opposing defenses and understanding how to watch film is the biggest advantage you can have when playing QB.
