Mason Pawelko Geneva Athlete Class of 2022 6'3 190

Mason Pawelko how has your first 2 weeks of the season been? It’s gone exactly how we wanted it to go. We are the first Geneva team in 6 years to start the season 2-0. We came into this season with hopes of getting this program back on its feet and to be the first of many successful teams under our new head coach Boone Thorgeson. Personally I’ve been happy but not satisfied with my start to the season. So far I have 2 int, 2 tds and 12 tackles on the year. What is the energy in that Geneva locker room? Excitement. We haven’t had much success in the years past and to finally have a good start really gets us excited. Also we are having a lot of fun. Last season with covid it was just a dry season. This year we are having a blast and looking forward to every opportunity to get better. We all have each other’s back and our team is our 2nd family What does football mean to you? It’s everything to me. I want to be a college football/NFL coach when I’m older so really I’m not just preparing for the upcoming game but I’m preparing for my career. Whether that’s studying defensive coverages or route combos, i’m installing all of this in my head. I’m preparing now so I can be 1 step ahead of everyone later What should college coaches know about you? Coaches should know that I am a team first player. I can play any position the team needs me to play. Whether that’s at safety, WR, OLB, TE, CB, or DE, I will play it. They should also know that i am hardworking, and open to trying new things. I pride myself on being coachable, and doing my 1/11th for my team on and off the field. What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? I feel my strongest trait is the ability to stay calm. When things get tough late in the 4th quarter I won’t panic. I try to treat every play in practice like it’s a game deciding play, so once those game deciding plays occur I won’t panic and I will be ready.

Remember Deep Dish Football Is Just Not About Recruiting

But About The Love Of The Game Of IHSA Football

RESPECT THE GAME
