Talking Again With Downers Grove North WR Charlie Cruse Class Of 2025 - Top Illinois Recruit

So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Charlie Cruse Downers Grove North WR/ATH Class Of 2025 6'1 170

Welcome back Charlie Cruse how was your sophomore season? My sophomore season was pretty solid. It started a little bit slower than I would like but we started to pick it up very quickly. By the end of the season, I was asked to join and play up with the varsity team for our playoff run.

What was one of your favorite memories last season? My favorite memory for last year has to be when I got pulled up for playoffs. The second round of the playoffs, we played Mt. Carmel at home. Playing the number one team in state and walking out of the tunnel with a great high school atmosphere felt amazing.

Have you talked to any colleges?

I have recently attended Indiana University for a Game Day visit. I loved the atmosphere, the campus and the energy of the Head Coach.

What sets you apart from other recruits?

My speed and my ability to make big catches when they are needed helps set me apart.

What should college coaches know about you? College coaches should know I’m a hard working player. I’m a precise route runner with speed but a team first player. What part of your game do you plan working on in the offseason? I think the thing I need to do most is get stronger and put on a little weight. The weight room is where I plan on spending a lot of time. I’ll also be catching a couple times a week to stay sharp. Running track to keep up my speed also. Who is one player from DGN besides Owen from the Class of 2026 that is going to have a breakout season next season? I would say Oliver Thulin. His brothers Owen and Ethan have set the bar pretty high for him but he’s a fast, explosive, athletic player that will be fun to watch in the future.

What are your top priorities in choosing a college?

Academics. It’s important to me to attend a college that will not just help me grow as a football player, it will help me become successful after college.
