Speaking With St. Charles East Athlete Trent Matejko Class Of 2023 - Name To Watch

So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Trent Matejko St. Charles East Athlete Class of 2023 6'0 205

Trent Matejko how was your junior season? Junior season was a rough one for me. I suffered a high and low ankle sprain a week before game 1. That prevented me from playing a full game for a while. Only fully healthy game I remember playing was against Geneva which I played really good in. And then right after Geneva I broke my collar bone in first play of North game. So overall pretty rough season for me. What does football mean to you? Football means a ton too me, have been playing since 4th grade I believe and have gone through other sports. But nothing ever gave me that rush football gave me. I look forward to those Friday night lights coming up every day and playing on that field. I work a ton to make myself better at the sport. I feel like a completely different person when I’m weightlifting for football and when I’m on that field. What should college coaches know about you? College coaches should know that I will be a big surprise for them this year. Off last season and only playing 1 full healthy game against Geneva. I will be a big shock. I am looking forward to this season being a big surprise to everyone. I am a very hard worker when it comes to perfecting my ways. Small stuff I find wrong I work very hard to strengthen and critique. I dedicated a lot of time into this upcoming season and making sure I am ready. I hope college coaches can see me at start of season and finally be able to see my real potential.

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? I believe it’s 100% my agility on the field. That’s the biggest thing I work on as a running back. I can be very elusive as well as a powerful runner on the field. Being able to get in and out of holes fast and quick decisions of blocks I read off of is the biggest trait of mine. I don’t like to be only a power running back. I feel being an elusive and at times power running back similarly to Alvin Kamara is my style. And that’s what I try and perfect. How does St. Charles East look for the upcoming season? We are looking a lot better than previous year. Our offense has a very good pass game. Our offensive line has great size throughout the whole line. So, our run game should be very solid this year. Our defense is looking good as well with a promising linebacker lineup and a strong and fast Defensive line. So overall I think it’s going to be a great comeback season. What goals do you have for yourself this season? I will surprise everyone with these upcoming openings games and perform at the potential everyone knows I can. And I will lead help lead my team into a great season and have a huge comeback year.
