Joey Coveliers Elk Grove Linebacker Class Of 2024 6'2 220
Joey Coveliers how is your offseason going so far? So far my off-season has been great. I’ve been able to continue working hard on improving myself academically and physically, and I am looking forward to attending camps throughout the summer to further prepare myself for the upcoming season. How was your junior season? My junior season was successful, as I was able to help my team reach the playoffs after we had trouble qualifying in previous years. I was also named as an all-state player which would not have been possible without support and guidance from my coaches and teammates. What should college coaches know about you? College coaches should know that I am hard working and a team player. I am also very excited to start exploring different options and connecting with coaches.
What does football mean to you? I have been playing football for as long as I can remember. Throughout my time playing football I have learned so many valuable lessons that have helped me become a better person. Football has helped me gain traits of leadership, teamwork, and perseverance. Without the support of my coaches and teammates I would not be the person I am today. What do you like about playing linebacker? Playing linebacker requires a lot of responsibility and leadership as you have to direct the defense. The position is also fast paced, as you have to be ready to account for the pass and the run. But my favorite part about playing linebacker is getting to hit someone just about every play. How does Elk Grove look for the upcoming season? I am very excited about our team coming into to next season. We have gotten much closer with one another by competing alongside each other in 7v7s, and we will become even closer throughout summer. This season I’m very confident our record will improve, and we will make it further into the playoffs than we did last year.
What goals do you have for yourself this season?
Some of my goals this season are to make a deep playoff run, be recognized as an all state player, and maintain a GPA of 4.0 or higher.
Who on Elk Grove is ready for a breakout season? Coming into this next season I feel like we have a lot of talent that other teams may underestimate. Some of our rising juniors to look out for are Dylan Berkowitz, who is a monster and can play just about any position, and dominate while doing it. Daryl Hunt, who is extremely quick and shifty, and is able to make anybody miss him. Lastly, Mikey Milovich, a very strong offensive linemen, as well as a great leader. A few of our rising seniors include Lucas Rogers, who I haven’t seen drop a ball since we played youth football together, and Logan Tosterud, who is a natural leader, and has the most passion and desire out of anyone I have ever played with.
