So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Nicholas Baser Brother Rice OL Class Of 2024 6'0 260

Nicholas Baser how was your junior season? My junior season was all over the place. Over the summer I tore my meniscus and sprained my ACL during a Rugby game. After a few months of rehab after surgery I recovered and was able to hit the field with my boys. I didn’t start my first game, because I didn’t have enough practice in and wasn’t really able to show my coaches what I was capable of because of my injury. Once I proved my ability to play, I started the rest of the season and had a fantastic year. We had a new head coach and nearly an entire new/inexperienced team and made it to quarterfinals, I'd say it was a great year.

What does football mean to you? Football means a lot to me it's one of my biggest motivations. During the off season and during my other sport seasons I’m still always thinking about football. I don't know how to describe the feeling I get when I walk onto a football field but it's just surreal. I actually didn’t end up playing football until my freshman year of high school at Lincoln Way Central. Then after playing my full freshman season, I fell in love with the game and transferred to Brother Rice to pursue football in a more serious way. What do you like about playing in the trenches? I love every part of being an offensive lineman. Every play I have the opportunity to make a play that I could put into my highlight reel. Being an offensive linemen can be bittersweet a lot of times you’re usually the last to be congratulated but the first to be blamed, but that’s never detoured me from giving my all into every block during every play. On the offensive line you have the opportunity to bully someone every play and it’s a lot of fun in all honesty and that’s why I like it, the offensive line controls the game.

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? I think my strongest trait on the football field would be not letting my size stop me. Im only about 6’0 and 260 lbs and 90% of the guys i’m going up against are bigger than me but i’ve never let that stop me. For example Loyola Academy has a very good/big defensive line but that was probably one of if not my best game of the season because I gave relentless effort all game no matter who I was going against. What goals do you have for yourself this upcoming season? A goal I have is a group goal between me and the entire offensive line and we all set a goal to break Brother Rice's rushing record. We want to do this to prove to everyone that we’re capable of being great. Who is the funniest lineman on Brother Rice? I think the funnies linemen at Brother Rice would have to be Demarcus Caston the dude is in his own world at times.
