Coach Big Pete's Take

Jackson is highly skilled for just a Class of 2024 OL recruit in Illinois. Love his speed and ability to make that initial contact. Love his reach on the offensive line and impressive footwork for such a young player. Still needs to grow a little, and put some weight on that body but Jackson to me is a top recruit in the Land of Lincoln.

Jackson Nekolny how was your spring season?

First off, I wanted to give a huge thanks to the entire Batavia Football program for their efforts in keeping us all informed, safe, focused and involved throughout the pandemic and spring season. The season was great for us overall as a program and it was challenging yet rewarding for me. The biggest challenge for me was adjusting to the speed of play when moving from level to level but once I got used to the pace, I feel as if I played very well. We may not have had the record we wanted but with all the adversity that we faced I believe we came out on top.

What does football mean to you?

I know it’s a cliche answer but football means everything to me. There’s just no better feeling in the world than to go out on the field and play the game I love next to my brothers who are as passionate about the game as I am.

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field?

I feel as if I have a lot of strong traits on the football field but if I had to pick one or two I would pick my ability to continue to use fundamentals and my ability to be flexible and play pretty much any position on the O and D line.

What would you like college coaches to know about you?

I want college coaches to know that I am a vocal leader on the field, coachable, and a person who is willing to put in the extra work in order to elevate my game on the field and in the classroom.

What game excites you the most in this upcoming season?

Our first game against Chicago Phillips is the game I’m most excited for because that’s when we get to see what our team is made out of while going against a tough out-of-conference opponent.

What do you like about playing in the trenches?

One thing I love about being in the trenches is seeing one of our many talented skill players streak down the field for a touchdown knowing that the block I just made helped that happen. Another thing I love about playing the line is the constant battle between the offense and defense. I really enjoy the hitting and physicality of it.

What goals do you have for yourself this upcoming season?

Some goals I have is to win our first game, continue to get stronger in the weight room, and be a key contributor as we work towards winning another state title.

Remember Deep Dish Football Is Just Not About Recruiting

But About The Love Of The Game Of IHSA Football

RESPECT THE GAME
