So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell
Nico Barkho South Elgin Athlete Class Of 2025 5'9 155
Nico Barkho how is your summer going so far? It’s going great, getting more and more looks, my names finally getting out there, and getting interests. I’ve been to 3 camps so far and they’ve all been great. So it’s been awesome so far. I’ve been working hard everyday and ready to have an outstanding junior season. What does football mean to you? Football means everything to me. I don’t know where i’d be without football. It’s my safe place and there’s no where i’d rather be than a football field. It has made me the person that I am today and has shaped me into who I am. Football always can keep me happy no matter what. What should college coaches know about you? No one will work harder than me and I’ll always be the hardest worker in the room. I’m very coachable and I’ll always do everything I can to be better and always improve.
How was your sophomore season?
It was awesome. I didn’t let up any touchdowns and only let up 1 catch all year. I learned a lot and played great all year.
What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field?
Either my football IQ or my speed. I’m always in the right place and the right time and always know where I need to be. I can detect plays very well and always know what’s happening. I have very good makeup speed and can break on a ball very well.
What goals do you have for yourself this season?
I want to have an even better season than I did last year and want to keep getting more and more interest. I don’t want to let up any touchdowns this year and I’m going to try and be a turnover machine. I also have a goal of being a state champion.
How does South Elgin look for the upcoming season? We’re looking good, we’re going to be a young team but we’re going to thrive. We have lots of guys who are hungry and ready to work. Lots of people have us as underdogs and don’t think we’re going to be as good as always but we’re coming different. just watch.
