Devan King how was your 2019 season?
My sophomore season started slowly because the starting line coming into the season were all seniors who have played together since their freshman year. I earned my spot by the third week and I led my team to a 5-3 record. At the end of the season our offense really started to click and we went on a three game winning streak which led to us making the state playoffs where we lost to eventual state champs East St. Louis. Then we went on to make a deep run in the city playoffs where we lost to Simeon in the city championship.
What does football mean to you?
Football gives me an emotional high every time I play on Friday night. I love the atmosphere, the energy, and the competitiveness of playing in front of a big crowd. Football is my sanctuary.
What part of your game have you been working on in the offseason? I have been working on furthering my strength and conditioning as well as perfecting my hand placement techniques and footwork in my pass set.
What do you like about playing in the trenches?
I love playing in the trenches because of the grind and grit that you need to have to play. I also like playing center because I am the leader of the line and I am able to make all of the calls necessary to make the play work.
What should college coaches know about you?
I am very competitive, I am also a team player, I am tenacious, I have a drive to be the best on the field on and on the field, and I have a 4.9 GPA.
How does this Morgan Park squad look for 2021? Our team will be young because last year we had over 20 seniors on our team that graduated and went on to play football at the next level, but we have a great coaching staff including Coach Chris James who will get us ready to compete at the highest level.
What do you feel is your strongest trait on the field? I have a high football IQ which allows me to pick up what the defenses and schemes that other teams are running. I am also very keen to the schemes that our offense is running so I am able to give the right calls to have the play run correctly.
