Meet Crystal Lake Central QB Jason Penza Class Of 2024 - Name To Watch

So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Jason Penza Crystal Lake Central QB/ATH Class Of 2024 6'2 170

Jason Penza how was your season? It wasn’t what I wanted it to be because of my injury. But I would say when I got the chance to play, I feel it went very well. What does football mean to you? Football means a lot to me. My grandpa played for Notre Dame and got drafted to the Steelers. So his passion for the game passed on to my dad and then my dads passion passed down to me. Football is a big thing in my family, ever since I was little I was always playing catch or running around with a football. Growing up I made playbooks for fun and watched football on tv, I wasn’t the kid playing with legos and watching cartoons. Football runs deep in my family so I guess In a weird way football is like a way of life for me, because of the lessons you learn from the game on and off of the field. What should college coaches know about you? I think college coaches should know that I’m an extremely hard worker and willing to sacrifice a lot to get an opportunity to play at the next level. I’m a leader who is always trying to get the best out of my teammates so we can be as successful as possible. What do you like about playing QB? Something I like best about QB is being involved in every play and having a chance to make a difference in the game on any snap. I also like the responsibility that comes with being the QB, getting to be that captain and general on the field. Who on Crystal Lake Central had a breakout season? Unfortunately with a lot of injuries we had a difficult year. But with that I’d say a lot of guys got some experience that they’re gonna need going into next year. George Dimopolis had to fill in at QB when I got hurt, but In his first game back at WR he had 3 TD’s. I’d say Griffin Buehler had a good year too, he had to step up and be the WR1 and make some plays, but he also got hurt and had to deal with a bad hamstring for a few weeks. Anthony (Tony) Morales had a great year at defensive end for us. We didn’t have a big senior class but the seniors we did have carried a big load, a lot of them went both ways. Cody Borchert played both tightend and linebacker for us and did a fantastic job. Jack Blum was like a Swiss Army knife, he ended up playing almost every position on the offensive line, he also played linebacker. Vinny Honer was a stud for us, he played RB , CB, and returned kicks. What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? I think one of my strongest traits is my competitiveness What part of your game do you plan on working on in the offseason? I plan on working on my accuracy and arm strength this off-season along with getting faster and putting more weight on.
