Niko Griggs Chicago Christian LB Class Of 2025 6'3 190
Niko Griggs how was your sophomore season? For me it was a great learning experience. It was my first time starting on Varsity. I played a few different positions before settling in at middle linebacker. I’m hopeful that the learning experience this year will lead to big things for next season. What does football mean to you? Football is something I have been doing since I was eight. It is a way for me to put my energy and focus towards bettering myself and my teammates. It is part of my daily routine… from daily practices in season, or hours in the weight room with my dad and brother… striving to get better has become part of my life!
What should college coaches know about you? I’m one of the top students in my school because I understand how important academics are to my future. I show the same discipline in football that I have in all aspects of my life. I also pride myself in being a good teammate. I am willing to do whatever my team needs to win. What do you like about playing linebacker? When I was smaller I used to be a defensive back, but there just wasn’t enough action for me. Now that I am bigger, I love being able to attack the ball and make plays. What part of your game have you been working on in the offseason? My focus for the past year has been to get bigger and stronger while maintaining my speed. Since my freshman year I have gained 50 pounds and grown 3 inches. Playing other sports like basketball and track has helped maintain my endurance and increase my speed. My goal is to gain another 20 pounds before the start of next season.
How does Chicago Christian look for the upcoming season?
Last season we made the playoffs, but no one was satisfied. All but four starters are coming back. We have a ton of young and hungry guys that have tasted the playoffs and want more! With Coach Chiarito moving to the head position, we feel like we are ready to have a break out season.
Who on Chicago Christian is ready for a breakout season? Brock Sperling is our team leader and will be even better next season. Besides myself, I look for our QB Christian Flutman to have a breakout season throwing the ball to Caden Boersma and Demo Griggs. Our senior running backs Jeremiah Oliver and Zeke Goble will put together a great senior year. Caleb Vande Werken and Chase Systsma will be the anchors on our offensive and defensive line, and we expect big contributions from a lot of other guys who are putting in offseason work as we speak.
