Grayslake North Defensive Back Carter Barenbaum Class Of 2024 Talks Football & Recruiting

So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Carter Barenbaum Grayslake North DB Class Of 2024 6'1 185

Carter Barenbaum how has your offseason been so far? Pretty good, mostly junior days and camps are starting up now. I’m still working at Jersey Mikes and have volleyball going on too. How was your junior season last fall? Easily my best season out of the 2 years I’ve been on varsity but there’s always room for improvement. I plan on working really hard during the off season to get stronger faster and bigger. What should college coaches know about you? I’m a 6'1 185lb safety from Grayslake North HS in Illinois and I want to study exercise science, business or physical education. I will be the first one in and last one out of any practice, meeting, or game and I pride myself in working hard. I may not be the most vocal person on and off the field, but I can still be a leader in many ways.

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? I feel like my strongest trait on the football field is being physical because I may not be the fastest guy on the field at all times or at any time. But I will always make sure I’m one of the most physical players on the field. Even though I may not be the fastest I still play fast, and I also used to play QB so being able to read a quarterback and see what he is saying is really helpful. Since I’m not the fastest I feel like my angles to the ball are really good. What part of your game have you been working on in the offseason? During the off-season I’ve been working a lot on my speed and strength because even though I already play physical you can always be stronger and a better version of yourself. I’ve also been working on getting my hands better because I feel like last season there were some passes that I should’ve intercepted and didn’t, and I guess part of that you can blame on me because I have always refused to wear gloves throughout my entire career. I just don’t like the feel of them there’s really no reason besides that though. How is volleyball season going for you so far? Volleyball season is going pretty good so far. this is my first year playing so right now I’m on JV. I would rather be on JV at the moment because I’m still learning the game and JV allows me more opportunities to play and learn from my mistakes. Right now I’m pretty sure we are above .500.

How does Grayslake North look for the upcoming season? Right now we’re still looking good. We may have a lot of people playing both ways this year so we’ll be working on stamina a lot. The new coaching staff is amazing and I think they will really kick us into gear for the next season. Our defense is still looking very strong. offense is a work in progress but I don’t have any worries for them. Back to back conference champs would be nice too.

What goals do you have for yourself this upcoming season? I would like to be able to get the career record for interceptions which is set at 8 while I still have 7. The interceptions for a season is set at 5 and even though I tied that record last year I would like to have it out right. Other goals I have for myself is to be somewhere in the range of 195 to 200 pounds by the end or during the season. I would also like my 40 time to get down to a 4.55. I want my vertical jump to be at 30 or more inches, would like to be top three and tackles on the team, would also like to be all state all conference and all area. Even though I was the defensive player of the year last season I wouldn’t mind being back to back.
