Conversation With Coal City Athlete Landin Benson Class Of 2025

So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Landin Benson Coal City Athlete Class Of 2025 5'7 160

Landin Benson how was your sophomore season? Coming into my sophomore year and being on varsity was a great experience for me and let me feel the competition on the varsity level. I knew I needed to work hard to get that starting spot and work for more in my upcoming years. What does football mean to you? Football means a lot to me, ever since I was little its always been my favorite sport and has taught me many qualities in sports and life. I love being out on the Friday night lights playing and getting that feeling when you win or learning what you could do better when you take a loss. What was one of your favorite memories last season? I would say one of my favorite memories was winning that first playoff game at home knowing your advancing and having the whole town there to watch you play.

How was your wrestling season? Individually I feel I could’ve done a lot better at state, but team is where we thrived at and came home with the 1a team state championship. How has wrestling helped you become a better football player? Determination, physicality, and discipline mainly. Wrestling also involves a lot of footwork which is great for me since I’m a running back. Wrestling shows a lot about a person, showing how much a kid really wants to win and has a lot of conditioning involved in it as well. This all relates back to football which is great for an athlete. How does Coal City look for the upcoming season? We are looking very solid and most of my teammates have been doing a lot of off-season work that will benefit them in game. I set the bar high for myself and my teammates this upcoming season. Who on Coal City is ready for a breakout season? The plan is for everybody to have one, but some names to lookout for are Gavin carpenter and Austin Davy our linebackers, and Creide Skubic and Jim Feeney our DBs.
