Vernon Malone how was your junior season? My junior season was great! Last year was the first time that I figured out my love for the game of football. I fell in love with the process and preparation from week to week. Towards the end of the year, we had a chance to get in the playoffs and we ended up falling short to Lincoln-Way East by a field goal. Although we didn’t make the playoffs, our team as a unit learned what it takes to win varsity football games against 7A and 8A powerhouses. What does football mean to you? Like I said earlier, I just started to fall in love with football last year so I’m still learning what football really means to me but football means a few things to me. First, football is an escape. An escape from everything that’s going on in the outside world for a few hours every Friday night. Football is also gives me something to look forward to everyday after a long day at school. What should college coaches know about you? The biggest thing that I want college coaches to know is that I’m a guy who prides himself on hard work and being a high motor player. I’m also a guy who carries himself with lot of swag, but I remain humble. I also want to let them know to get at me and I’m ready for any opportunity that may come my way!

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? My strongest trait on the football field is my mind. The discipline I have and the way that I’m able to dissect offenses gives me a huge edge. I study tendencies and this helps me to play faster when I recognize something that I’ve seen millions of times on film. This year I think I will have more of a physical presence on the field because I’ve grown 2 inches, I’ve been working really hard in the weight room and at the dinner table to put on 20 pounds from the start of last year. What goals do you have for yourself this season? I want All-Conference and All-State but my biggest goal this season is to put my school back in the playoffs, and make a deep run then find a great fit to spend my next three to four years playing ball. What game are you most looking forward to this upcoming season? This is a really tough question because I have something that I’m looking forward to in each game this year but the game I’m looking forward to most is week 2 when we play Kenwood Academy. There are many reasons that I’m looking forward to that game, but the biggest reason is because I’m looking forward to my biggest matchups with Logan Lester and Khalil Tate. I am willing be playing with a chip on my shoulder because I have a lot to prove. They have a good program with a lot of good players but I’m confident in the team that we have, and I think we’re ready to shock a lot of people.
