Chatting With St. Rita OL Charlie Armbruster Class Of 2023

So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Charlie Armbruster St. Rita OL Class of 2023 6'0 255

Charlie Armbruster how was your junior season?

My junior season was great in the sense that it was my second year playing on varsity and we were able to make another deep playoff run. What does football mean to you?

Football means a lot to me because of the lessons that I have learned from the game. Playing on the line has taught me to be selfless because of how little recognition there is when one lineman plays well. I enjoy that I can play well even without the outside attention other positions get. What is your favorite memory from last season?

My favorite memory from last season was being able to get back to the State Championship. After not having playoffs due to Covid, it was truly a great experience to have a normal season. It may not have ended well, but the opportunity was like none other.

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field?

I believe my strongest trait on the field is my football IQ. Going into my senior season, I have already played in 20 varsity football games. This has allowed me to begin seeing certain defensive fronts quicker and allow me to make better call outs while playing Center. What should college coaches know about you?

College coaches should know that I know the sacrifices one needs to make in order to win. Between, commuting 40 minutes to school every day, maintaining a 4.5 GPA while taking all Honors and AP classes, and lifting takes sacrifices and is not easy. What part of your game have you been working on in the offseason?

In the offseason, I have been working on becoming stronger in the weight room and a better all-around football player, including my pass sets, inside zone steps, and pulling. What goals do you have for yourself this upcoming season?

The biggest and most important goal I have for myself this upcoming season is to win a State Championship, since my brother Joey will be with me on Varsity this year. Besides that, I just want to prove that I can play football at a high level even though I am undersized for my position. What do you like about playing in the trenches?

I like the physicality and toughness that comes with playing on the line. Playing in the trenches is not for everyone and I believe that is where the game is won. What game are you most looking forward to this upcoming season?

I am definitely looking forward to our season opener against Mount Carmel. After losing the way we did last year, nothing would be better than to return the favor this year on the road. What should incoming football freshmen know about this St. Rita program?

My brother Steven is an incoming freshman and I told him that the program at St. Rita is all about winning. Along with East St. Louis, we are the only other school in Illinois to make it to state in both the 2019 season and the 2021 season.
