Joe Savaiano Class of 2021 Walter Payton Prep ATH 6'0 208
Joe Savaiano how was your 2019 season?
The 2019 football season was the best football season of my life. Even through all the adversity we faced with the teachers strike, we all worked hard and made the most of the situation. We had an outstanding group of guys, and I’ll never forget the memories we made together on the field. Although we fell short of our goal of winning a state playoff game, we kept the game really close versus a great Fenwick team, and left it all on the field. I was so proud of how the team was able to compete and keep the game close after not being able to practice for 2 weeks. On an individual level, I was an all-conference linebacker and won defensive player of the year for my team. I’m looking forward to having an even better senior season and showing off all the hard work I’ve been putting in this offseason
What does football mean to you?
Loving football is loving to compete and work harder than everyone else around you. I love football because of the connection I feel with my teammates and the collective desire to dominate our opponent. I love how everyone is locked in on one goal and will give 100% effort to achieve that goal. I don’t believe any other sport offers this sense of brotherhood and determination
What should college coaches know about you?
Not only will I be the hardest working player in the locker room, but I’ll also be a leader who will rally all my teammates together for one goal: victory. I will work so hard the players around me will see no other choice but to work as hard as me, and that will make us better. I’m also pretty versatile and can play a lot of defensive positions.
How does Payton look for 2020?
We lost some key players this year in Damien Goodman, Sage Schindler, and Julian Melchor. They were great leaders and even better football players. Although we lost these guys, I’m extremely confident in how our team will perform this year and expect another undefeated regular season, and some playoff wins as well. Every player on my team is working hard, and the rising seniors are all going to step up to the challenge and succeed. Look out for Henry Boyer and Eamon Glascott this season, they are going to be stars this season
Funniest player on the team is?
Danny O’Connell for sure. He’s always clowning around with players but once game time comes he’s extremely locked in and serious. It’s funny to see because it’s like a complete shift in personality
