Conner McDonald Class of 2021 Eureka OL/DL 6'3 250

Conner McDonald welcome back.... How was your 2019 season?

Truthfully, it was a tough season to take. We were plagued with nagging injuries that robbed us of our full potential. It’s hard to look back. It definitely teaches you to never take anything for granted. We went 7-2 during the regular season and made it to the 2nd round of the Playoffs.

What schools have you been talking to so far?

I had quite a few visits scheduled before the virus shut everything down. I was really looking forward to visiting quite a few schools. I’ve spoken with coaches from Illinois Wesleyan, Knox, Wartburg, and North Central. I’ve received quite a few messages from schools in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Kentucky. I had a great visit at Eastern Kentucky University last fall. Hopefully there will be a way to get in visits or some type of camps this summer. How does Eureka look for 2020?

Our Senior class is extremely strong with multiple 3 year starters returning at skill positions. We are doing some rebuilding on the offensive and defensive line but we have talented players stepping up to compete for those spots. I feel confident about the upcoming season. We added some teams to the schedule we haven’t played before so I’m really looking forward to those games. As always, our goal is to win every week. If we play every week like we know we can, it will be another great year for Hornet football.

Who on Eureka should I be on the lookout for?

Offensively our QB Matt Martin is a wicked playmaker. He’s a dual threat with a strong arm and can gain yards on the run. Aden Sears is a player teams try to shut down but very few have a guy who can match his speed at receiver. Thomas Cahill and myself will anchor both the offensive and defensive lines. Hunter Gladson, Jett Bachman, and Elijah Skutt are capable of big plays. A lot of those same guys will be playing both sides of the ball. Defensively we will be deep at multiple skill positions. What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field?

This year it’s going to be leadership. I’m relentless in my goal to get the best out of the players around me. I want my teammates to feel the satisfaction that comes from hard work and never giving up. Lighting a fire in them to push harder and dig deeper is going to be a main focus.
