Mike Smith JR Guilford Class of 2022 DB 6'0 155

CBP: What should college coaches know about you?

MIKE SMITH: I am an honor student with good character and very coachable. I want to be trained by the best and compete against the best. Building relationships with college coaches is just as important as finding the right school that will offer me an opportunity.

How does Guilford look for 2020?

Last year was a tough year for us. We had to adjust to a new offensive system. We are looking to improve and develop during the off season. We have enough talent and speed to turn some heads in 2020.

What does football mean to you?

Football means the world to me. I credit all of my coaches from junior tackle to high school with developing me into the person I am today. Friday nights and hanging out with teammate is priceless. I come from a family of D1 football athletes so I have to work hard to continue the tradition.

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the field?

I would have to say my strongest traits is quickness and having good hands. Being a 3 sport athlete (football, basketball, track & field) has really helped me develop. I love watching game film with my Dad so I can correct my mistakes and get better.

How was your 2019 season?

I had a pretty good season. I got my first pick 6 for a touchdown which was very exciting. I grew a lot as person as well as a football player. Being selected as one of the leaders on the team meant a lot to me. I will continue to work on my muscle strength.

What schools have you talked to?

Colorado State University (Brian White), Western Michigan University (KC Zenner), Furman University (Peter Lusk), Eastern Illinois University (Jim Meussling), Grambling State University (Andre Fuller), Southern University [LA] (Ashton Warner & Vincent Marshell), Montana State University Recruiting.

No offers at this time.

Toughest player you went up against in 2019?

I would have to say James Cooper II. He plays quarterback for Machesney Park Harlem High School. James and I play football together when we were little. J-Coop can sling it. He is definitely a next level athlete in my book.

Who else on the team should I be on the lookout for?

Be on the Lookout for Guilford's 2021 - A’tiq Muhamman 6’2’ 170 FS/WR. Not only is he an awesome teammate, but I’ve learned a lot from him as a cornerback. His Dad is our DB coach on the team. He has good speed, quickness, and will punish anyone who has the ball. Coaches shouldn’t sleep on A’tiq. He is a game changer.
