Ethan Mayer Class of 2021 Geneva ATH 5'11 175
COACH BIG PETE: Ethan Mayer how was your 2019 season?
ETHAN MEYER: At the beginning of the season it was a bit of a struggle because the jump from varsity from sophomore was intense, but after a few games I started to get more comfortable running the ball and playing with the better competition. Overall my team went 0-9 which was disappointing, but my teammates and I have been putting in lots of work this offseason and I’m very optimistic for the 2020 season.
What do you feel was your best game in 2019?
I think my best game was in week 9 against Glenbard North. GBN was one of the best teams we had played all year and I competed very well. I was on pace for my first 100 yard game, but in the last 10 minutes I suffered a high ankle sprain. This is the game that I felt like I most improved and I really just wanted to keep getting the ball.
What does football mean to you?
Even though I just started playing football a few years ago, it’s more than just a sport to me. The relationships you build with your teammates is incredible. You go through everything together: the goods, the bads, and the struggles. It’s a brotherhood that You will never forget. I also strive for the adrenaline you get once you’re on the field. You can never get enough. I love football.
What do you feel is your strongest trait on the field?
My strongest trait on the field is my relentlessness. I have to give a lot of credit to my team because even though we didn’t have the season we wanted none of us gave up and we continued to fight till the end. This really helped me understand to never give up no matter what and to always give it my all.
What should college coaches know about you?
College coaches should know that I have a great work ethic. I’ve obtained a great work ethic through my countless years of sports. I’m always either playing football or baseball and my coaches have taught me very well on how hard work pays off.
What game are you most looking forward to in 2020?
Well I don’t think there is a single game I’m not looking forward to, but I can’t wait to play our teams rival Batavia. The past couple years they’ve beat us, but I really want to turn that around this year and win. They think they are so much better then us just because they’ve beaten us for the past couple of years and I just really want to show them that Geneva is having a comeback year in 2020.
