COACH BIG PETE: Kyle Clayton how was your 2019 season?
KYLE CLAYTON: As I reflect on my 2019 season at Brother Rice, I think about one invaluable lesson that I learned along the way: You have to persevere through any adversity that you are confronted with—both on and off the field.
What does football mean to you?
Football, to me, is the ultimate team sport that measures all those intangibles that are within you. It tests your will, desire, and determination to DOMINATE the will, desire, and determination of your opponent.
What should college coaches know about a Kyle Clayton?
The first thing that college coaches need to know about me is that I have transferred to Wendell Phillips High School, a place where iron sharpens iron. Secondly, I know what it means to be a student athlete, and you cannot have one without the other. And finally, I am thankful to have that “IT” factor to rise above the competition.
What goal do you have for yourself this upcoming season?
My goal this upcoming season is to align my vision to the vision of the coaching staff at Phillips and to be a good teammate. The expectation at Phillips is a state championship, and I am constantly trying to get bigger, faster, and stronger to reach this goal.
What do you feel is your strongest trait on the field?
I feel as though my strongest trait on the field is my vision and being aware of where everybody is positioned at all times. I rely on my speed a lot in order to create space to give the quarterback a larger throwing window.
