Robert Emmens how was your 2019 season?
2019 went way better than expected. We lost a good senior class and we had small numbers. But we worked hard and worked together so well the coaches taught us the playbooks both offensively and defensively and we executed every game and fought our best. It was the best season in Hiawatha history and it was a great honor to be apart of that. For me I started off as a wide receiver. But found my rhythm playing defensive end. One week 6 game vs Walter Christian I broke out with 8 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries. It was great to contribute to my team and that’s what I really plan on doing even more for my remaining 2 seasons
Favorite memory from 2019 was?
I’d have to say The fans cheering us out of town to our away playoff game at Morrison. It was totally unexpected and it was a total shock to all the players. The community coming together to support the football team ya know it’s hard to find fans with such heart to wake up early on a Saturday morning and go cheer the school that many of those fans went to in the past. It was fantastic. We had great fans all year and that moment felt like we were the biggest and baddest group of 19 ever.
What does football mean to you?
So much man. It’s crazy. I haven’t been playing football nearly as long as everyone else and it’s a change in my life. I’m usually a quiet keep to myself kinda guy but when I throw that helmet on I’m loud , im vocal and in your face. I don’t trash talk but I will let you know I did something . Man football is everything to me. Grew up watching Michigan Football cheering on the Maize and Blue. Football has changed my life and has gotten me through so much in my life and I honestly don’t know where I’d be without it
What schools have you talked to so far?
Currently I haven’t been talked to by any schools but during this offseason I plan on reaching out to some programs to get my name out there because I’m gonna be good and as long as my body keeps up with me and i can get more size I’ll be scary to play against
What should college coaches know about you?
I work hard I am dedicated. Football especially at the collegiate level has been my dream since I was a little kid. I can Play Wide Receiver , Tight-End , Defensive-End and Outside Linebacker. And I play with all of my heart and all of my football IQ . I study the game and have a lot of support from my community and from my family and loved ones. My dedication and loyalty is unmatched. And I can’t wait to see where my future goes
