Cole Hernandez Normal West Class of 2020 6'3 190 TE/WR

Cole Hernandez how was your 2018 season?

My 2018 season was the best one yet, my team made it to the third round of the playoffs, the furthest that any normal west team has ever gone before. It was also a great year because i was with a great group of guys that were ready to come to work every day, eager to do whatever they needed to do for our team. Not only was it a good year for our team but also a good year for me individually. I was first team all conference, first team all area, and an all state special mention for wide recievers. I broke the school record for most career receptions with 88, had the most single season receptions with 55, and the most recieving yards in a single season with 850. I am currently 3rd in our school history for career recieving yards with 1363, and hope to break that record this coming season.

Favorite memory of 2018?

My favorite memory of the 2018 season was during our homecoming game, when i made a game winning diving catch with less than a minute to go in the game. I remember everyone going crazy on the sidelines and in the stands. This will probably forever be one of my most favorite moments in my sports career.

What does football mean to you?

Football is about going out with your friends, laying it all out on the line for your team, and having a great time. The adrenaline rush that you get going into each game is something that i feel you cannot experience in any other sport. Football has been in my life since i was young and it has always been a favorite sport of mine, which is why i hope to play at the next level.

What schools have you talked to?

So far i have talked to SIU in Carbondale, Augustana, Drake university, Loras college, Knox college, and Carelton college.

What should college coaches know about you?

College coaches should know that i am very coachable, a team leader, and LOVE to have fun while playing. I always say that sports are meant to be fun, or nobody would want to play them. This is why i try to take each practice/game and make the most of it, because some day i'm never gonna be able to play again, so i want to enjoy it while i can.

What game are most excited about this season?

The game that i am most excited about for this coming season is the Normal Community game. They are our rival, and not only have we not beaten them before in my high school career, but i truley believe that this season is our best chance to do it.

What part of your game have you been trying to improve in the offseason?

In the offseason, my main focus has been getting faster, and increasing my squat and hang clean maxes. To do this i have been squatting and cleaning pretty regularly, and have been doing some sprinting/jumping workouts whenever i can. I have already seen improvements and hope to make even more strides this summer when i begin working out with my team again.

Favorite route to run?

My favorite route to run is the back shoulder fade, because when its done right its impossible to defend

What goal do you have for yourself this upcoming season?

My goals for this season are to beat Normal Community, break all of the remaining recieving records at my school, and make first team all state wide receiver.
