James Cooper might be Illinois biggest secret on the recruiting pipeline. He has all the tools to be an elite QB but is also in a crowded Class of 2021 for the Land of Lincoln QBs.
James Cooper welcome back, How was your 2018 season?
My 2018 season was pretty good. Personally I think we could have made it further in the playoffs but we did the best we could and gave it our all.
How is the recruiting trail going with you?
The recruiting is going good, My new head coach has already made a lot of calls to colleges about me and has set up a couple visits. It’s not going quite as fast as I thought it would but my time is coming with the help of my teammates and coaches.
What schools have you talked to so far?
I have talked to South Dakota, SIU, Western Illinois University, Purdue and hoping to make my way back up to Iowa and Purdue to catch up. There have been many schools inviting me to their summer camps as well.
What excites you the most about this upcoming season?
I think the most exciting part of this upcoming season is that all the kids I have been playing with my whole life are gonna be seniors. I know how much this year means to them and it even means a lot to me. I want to give them the best run at a state championship that I can. I’m gonna do my best to make sure they leave high school football satisfied.
What makes a James Cooper happy?
What makes me happy is playing the sport i’ve loved since the age of 5 which is football. But there are a lot of other things that make me happy. I like seeing my family and friends happy because that brings me joy. Helping the kids with football or even playing catch with them for a little makes me happy. There’s a lot that makes me happy but the thing that makes me the most happy is walking around the school and seeing all the people walking by themselves and just telling them hi or asking them how there doing. I will always put others before myself.
