Payton Mather Hononegah QB Class of 2020 6'3 180

Payton Mather how was your 2018 season?

I actually sat behind Ryan VanSchelven this past fall but it was a great learning experience for me. I grew a lot on the mental part of the game and feel prepared for this upcoming season.

What did mean to you to be back up VanSchelven?

He’s the epitome of what a leader and a quarterback is, so I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to sit behind and learn from. Just by watching him go through his week made me learn a lot about what I need to do to be successful

What part of your game have you been working in the offseason?

With baseball I haven’t been able to throw very much in order to keep my arm healthy, but I’ve been watching film and doing some work our offensive coordinator gives the quarterbacks about certain game situations and what to do as a quarterback.

What do you like about playing QB?

Being in command of the offense and the team looking to you when you need a key drive in a big game.

What goal do you have for yourself this upcoming season?

Winning conference of course, but just to prove myself to people around the area who thinks we may have a down year as a team.

How does Hononegah look this upcoming season?

We’re losing a lot of key seniors, but our junior class is more than capable of keeping up our recent success.

Who are some Hononegah players I should be on the lookout for this upcoming season?

Braden Sayles, Kaleb Etnyre, Christian Gomez, and Mason Adams
