Justin Hiller Stevenson Class of 2020 QB 6'0 180

Justin Hiller how was your 2018 season?

Last year, I got a mix of time on varsity and JV, backing up Cole Okmin. He’s a great quarterback, next year going to play at Wash U. I gained a lot of experience last year, and I’m ready to compete in the 2019 season.

What part of your game have you been working on in the offseason to prepare yourself for this upcoming season?

I’ve been working with Jeff Christensen and Preston Earl at Throw it Deep for the past 6 years. I’m focusing on my mechanics and shortening my release time. Also, I’ve been lifting weights and doing morning conditioning sessions, as well as lacrosse in the spring to improve my speed.

What should college coaches know about you?

College coaches should know that I’m a hard worker that enjoys putting in the time to get better in the offseason. I’m a good teammate, I try to make the whole team better, and I believe that if I am able to show these coaches my abilities, they’ll see that I’d be a great addition to their roster. Academics are just as important to me as athletics, and I want an opportunity in which I can excel at both at the next level.

What schools have you been talking to?

I’ve been communicating by email with a number of d2 and d3 schools, such as Grinnell, Carleton, Carnegie Mellon, and Hope. Over spring break, I visited Bucknell, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Princeton to talk to all of their coaches in person.

What do you like about playing QB?

I like the responsibility of being a leader and setting the tone for the entire team, I like the challenge of performing under pressure. Also, it’s an awesome feeling to throw a pass downfield and connect with one of our great receivers and hear the crowd reaction.

Why do you think Stevenson has had such a great lineage of QBs?

The area has a very strong youth football program in the Buffalo Grove Bills, sending a lot of talent into Stevenson, and it’s not just at the quarterback position. It really prepared me well for playing football in high school, and the coaches do a great job of getting the most out of all of the players.

Give me on breakout Patriot player I should be on the lookout for this upcoming season?

Rishik (The Freak) Kancharla is the real deal. He is a great athlete that I believe will light it up this year. We’ve played together for many years, and I know that he will have an incredible season
