Batavia's Linebacker Mojo Weerts Talks Bulldog Football & Playing Football With His Brother

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams

Mojo Weerts Class of 2021 Batavia Linebacker 6'2 217

Weerts how was your 2018 season?

My 2018 season was a season of growth for me. I feel as if I have grown as a leader and as a player on the football field. I also gained confidence in the scheme and overall how to play the game as a Middle linebacker.

How did it feel to play with your older brother?

Playing with Luke was an honor. As I learned from him on how to be leader and an impact player

Who is better? Big Question...

I have some big shoes to fill, Luke set a bunch of defensive records at Batavia. However I don’t see those lasting long. But I’m definitely better looking.

What have you been working in the offseason to improve yourself for 2019?

Speed and strength training at BHS with my team. I also have sessions with Chris Browning from Proforce who trained Jansey and now is preparing Luke for ndsu and is preparing me for my move to Mike backer.

What would you like college coaches to know about you?

I’m a 3.5 gpa student, I lead by example and I have drive to win. I want them to watch my film to show that I am a fast hard hitting player.

What is one regular season from 2018 you wish you had back?

We ran the table in the regular season going 9-0, so the regular season went great. But one game I wish we had back was definitely Nazareth as I feel we could’ve played a better game.

Who is a young Class of 2022 Bulldog I should keep an eye out for?

AJ Sanders, he is a versatile back who can play any skill position on offense as well as DB. I expect him to be a varsity impact player this year. Also in the 2018 playoffs he scored a 40 TD the first time he touched the ball on the varsity level. He’s the real deal.

Who is one player that you faced that made you think he was under looked last season?

Justin hull offensive tackle from St Charles East was by far the best offensive lineman on their team and the best offensive lineman we faced all year. He is a power five caliber player.
