Joey Jeffries Class of 2020 Morton DB 6'0 200
Joey Jeffries how was your 2018 season?
My 2018 season was certainly a roller coaster of ups and downs. As a team we went 6-3 and went to the playoffs for the second year straight with high expectations following a year where we went to the second round and had a very close game with Richwoods. Unfortunately in the first round in 2018 we met our match and lost to Decatur-MacArthur. When it comes to my 2018 season personally I didn’t get a lot of playing time due to being an underclassmen behind two of the best seniors in the area (Nolan Donald and Tag Grampp) however in being in this position I got to compete with them and learn from them every day in practice and look forward to using what I learned from the intense competition everyday at practice and use that this season to be one of the best players in the area myself.
Favorite memory from last season?
I always love getting pumped up with the team in the locker room before the game. Also we had team meals before every game which is always fun to share some time with your teammates before the game
What should college coaches know about you?
I am always in the weight room. I love to improve as a player and am a work addict. I am a versatile player that can learn any position necessary. Finally, I absolutely love the game of football and I’ve been pursuing my dream to play at the next level since I was in JFL.
What was one of your best games last season?
My best game last year was against Pekin. I had a fumble recovery that got us into scoring position to secure the win along with double digit tackles and 2 for loss.
Toughest QB you went up against last season?
Thomas Hall of Metamora. He is a fast, tall, and athletic QB. Very good at throwing in and out of the pocket and kept me on my toes at all times as a defender because of his multi threat style of play. He could beat you on the run or in the air which is always scary.
Who are some players on Morton I should keep an eye out for upcoming season?
For seniors at Morton I would look out for Bobby Hines who is a very fast, tall, and athletic player who hits hard as well as Grant Gudeman a now 3 year starter at MLB who got 2nd team all conference last year. We have a lot of great crazy talented juniors that will make some noise next year too. Alex Chaiken and Brooks Wilkinson on the D Line and Ashton Everding and Safety.
