Talking With An Emerging Illinois Recruit Waubonsie Valley's Defensive Back Elijah Smith Class O

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams

Elijah Smith Defensive Back Waubonsie Valley Class of 2020 5'10 170

Elijah Smith how was the Boom Showcase for you?

The showcase was very fun and competitive. I liked competing against the best athletes from multiple states. I performed okay, but i know I can perform a lot better. I plan to use this a learning experience. I know what I need to work on and I will be ready come August!

How was your 2018 season?

The season overall went pretty well. I was one of two juniors defensively to make all conference, so I was proud of that. We did better than everyone expected, but the 2019 year will be the best one yet.

What aspect of your game have you been working on in the offseason?

This offseason I've been trying to get bigger and stronger, and studying corners that are similar to me so I can improve and use their techniques.

What would you like college coaches to know about you?

I want coaches to know that I bring a lot of swagger and intensity every time I play. I play with confidence and it rubs off on everyone else. I also want coaches to know that I'm willing to learn and get better

Favorite part of playing defensive back for you is?

I like hitting and the trash talking. I'm a very physical corner and try to take advantage of every chance I get to hit. I like the trash talking because it's fun and brings intensity to the matchup

Toughest WR you went up against last season?

Sam Jackson and/or #2 on Maine South. Both were very good receivers and I knew had to be completely locked in the entire week and have a little more preparation in order to win the matchups

Funniest DB on Waubonsie Valley?

Josh Stevens is easily the funniest person on the team, anybody can vouch for him

What goal do you have for yourself this season?

I actually have 4 main goals right now. 1. Win state 2. Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year 3. First team all state 4. Solidify and prove that I'm the best DB to ever come through WV and the DVC
