Meet Mater Dei's Class Of 2021 6'4 Blaize Schellenger OL/DL

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams

Blaize Schellenger Mater Dei Class of 2021 OL/DL 6'4 250

Blaize Schellenger how was your 2018 season?

My 2018 season was my best season so far in my career. I had the opportunity to get my first minutes on the varsity level and I started every game as the left tackle. As a team we had a good season going 7-2 in the regular season but getting knocked out first round of the playoffs by Effingham. So that made us an overall record of 7-3. I matured as a player and a person, gaining the experience from playing with and against older players. This season made me a better overall player.

Favorite memory this season?

My favorite memory this season was beating Althoff 47-0. This is my favorite memory about this season because we came together as a team and executed. In that game we showed what we were capable of doing as a team. Our coach went to Althoff and has never beat them since he started coaching at Mater Dei. We got the holy grail that our coach and their coach made when they first scheduled a game against each other and our coach has never had it.

What is one main thing you are working on to better yourself for the upcoming season?

One thing that I am working on for the upcoming season is becoming more precise with my technique. I’ve studied my film and I have noticed that I rely on my strength more than my technique. I am working to put my strength and technique together to become a better all around football player.

What should college coaches know about you?

College coaches should know that I have a lot of room to improve. Studying hard in the class room and working hard in the weight room to get stronger and faster are my main priorities.

What schools have you talked to?

I haven’t talked to any schools about football. But I have talked to Murray State University, Ball State University, The University of Tennessee at Martin, St. Ambrose University, Culver-Stockton College, Illinois College, and Wichita State University all about academics.

How does Mater Dei look for 2019 upcoming season?

Mater Dei is looking really well for the upcoming season. Our offensive and defensive line is nearly the same. But our backs and wideouts are almost completely new. A majority of our 2018 team is graduating this year so we will be having a lot of players stepping up this upcoming season.

Who are some young Mater Dei players people should be on the lookout for?

Me being a sophomore there is not a lot of younger players below me. But in my class there are a few players that I have in mind that people should be on the look out for.

What game has you the most excited this upcoming season?

Our home opener against Effingham has me the most exited. Im exited to play them because we beat them in the regular season but lost to them in the playoffs. I think we can beat them if we come together and execute.

What does football mean to you?

Football is what motivates me to do more. I revolve my day around football and what can make me better. Football is a sport Ive been playing for my whole life, and a strive to continue playing past high school.
