Talking With Huntley's Junior Linebacker Rukkus Hunkins About Red Raider Football & Wrestlin

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams

Rukkus Hunkins Huntley Class of 2020 Linebacker 6'0 175

Rukkus Hunkins how was your 2018 season?

I was proud of my performance on the field this year. I started every game as a linebacker and was second in overall tackles on the team this year. Ultimately though I wasn’t satisfied because my primary goal was to get my team wins last year and fell a little short in a few games and didn’t have the playoff run we wanted. Altogether I am looking forward to my 2019 season to help my team win and pursue a great playoff run.

Favorite memory from last season?

I have two. The first was beating our cross town rivals, Jacobs, because I grew up playing on the same youth team with several of the players. The game was for all the bragging rights and it felt amazing getting the win against them. And the second was being on the field when our defense secured the victory against Prairie Ridge and ending their 30 game win streak. It was just an electric atmosphere and an intense game.

How does Huntley look this season?

Difficult to say for certain now because we have a lot of spots to fill from our great senior class. One thing I can say though is that we have a lot of young eager players that are ready to jump in and fill those spots. They are working hard in the weight room and in other offseason training whether it is an other sport or training for the next season. As for one of the great contributors to this team, Matt Burba, and I are on the varsity wrestling team and looking forward to making another run for state this year but, we always have our minds primed for this upcoming football season.

What would you like college coaches to know about you?

I am athletic, tough, smart and most importantly I LOVE this game.

What does playing linebacker mean to you?

To me playing linebacker means being the leader of the defense, bringing everything I got to every play, being in the middle of the action, setting the tone to the game, being mean and hard hitting because there is no better feeling than making a huge hit.

How is your wrestling season going so far?

It’s going great I’m right where I want to be. It’s always tough transition right off the field and onto the mat but I feel like I’m to be peaking at the right time just as the state series is approaching. The team is working hard and our eyes are set to the state podium again this year.
