Grayslake North's Senior Linebacker Jake Perez Talks Knights Season & Future

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams

Jake Perez Grayslake North Class of 2019 LB 5'11 180

Jake Perez how was your season?

We had a rough start to our season, starting off 0-4. Every single game was within reach but we just couldn’t finish. After that we won the last 5 games in a row. We missed the playoffs, but I believe we took huge steps towards improving the program and creating a winning tradition here at Grayslake North.

Favorite memory this season?

Our last game against Grayslake Central was definitely the most memorable for me. I believe there is no better way than ending the season with a win against your cross town rivals.

Toughest player you went up against this season?

DeAngelo Hardy from Lakes was by far the toughest and most talented player I got to match up against. He was very shifty and explosive, he’s a hard guy to stop.

What do you like about playing linebacker?

I love to hit people so linebacker gives me the best opportunity to do that. I also love the leadership role playing linebacker comes with.

What do you say to students on the fence about joining Grayslake North Football?

If you’re willing to be selfless for the team then go to a practice and give it a try. Some of the best memories I’ve ever had were playing football at Grayslake north. It’s an experience you can’t get anywhere else.

What advice do you give next year's senior players?

Always play and practice like it’s the last time you’re stepping on that field. More importantly make sure you soak in every moment you have with your brothers on the field because it will be over before you know it.

Whats in the future plans for Jake Perez?

I have met with several schools this winter. I plan on furthering my education and playing football. I’m just not sure where yet.

What would you like college coaches to know about you?

I would like college coaches to know that I’m a coachable guy who is driven to succeed on and off the field.
