So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams

Lukas VanNess Class of 2020 Barrington 6'5 230 DE/ATH

Lukas VanNess how was your Junior season? Junior year was a great developmental year for me. I feel that I improved and became more dominating with each game. I learned how mental this game can be and I’m now a better, smarter player because of the challenges that our team was faced with. Favorite memory this season? Team: Overcoming numerous season ending injuries to my teammates and persevering to win our last 3 regular season games and making the Class 8A playoffs. Personally: Sacking the quarterback on 4th and long to clinch our first round playoff win at Oswego East. What colleges have you talked to? I have met with recruiters from Illinois, Iowa, West Virginia, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, South Dakota, University of Pennsylvania and Princeton. I have also been in communication via social media with numerous other programs. What would you like college coaches to know about you? It’s very important for me to be a well rounded athlete. I’m looking for a program with outstanding academics as well as a strong reputation of supporting their athletes. Once this opportunity presents itself, then you can expect great things from me both on and off the field. What do you like about playing on the defensive line? The battle.. As defensive linemen, we hold the line as if in the trenches, battling play after play. We don’t get the glory that the offense receives, but once we connect with the quarterback... lights out! #IHateQBs How has hockey helped you as a football player? Playing hockey improves my physical and mental agility. Hockey is a fast sport, as plays develop in seconds, and momentum can shift in the blink of an eye. Competing in that sort of environment has improved my ability to make quick decisions and think on my feet. It also helps my concentration. What game are most excited about next season? Game #1 vs Warren. I have so much training planned for this off-season that I can’t wait to line up and sack my first quarterback of 2019. #IHateQBs
