So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams

Kevin Tamayo Class of 2019 Linebacker Antioch 5'7 190

What does Antioch Football mean to you?

Antioch football is playing smash mouth football. It may not be pretty at times but we get the job done. We are ruthless and determined to compete. We don't stop playing and give up, we always give a hundred percent on every single play.

Favorite memory from last season?

My favorite memory from last year was when we came back to beat an undefeated lakes team 34-31 while trailing 17-3 at half. It was one of those times when we all had to pull together as a unit and win the game and overcome adversity.

You are undersized, but you are one of the hardest workers on that field-- What does that mean to you?

I am undersized by height but I kind of think my weight makes up for it. Being 190 pounds isn't bad for somebody that is 5'7. I work hard and that should matter because I face guys with a bigger frame then me and outcompete them. I am bigger on the inside than I am on the outside.

What motivates a Kevin Tamayo?

I get super motivated from people not believing in me. My frame doesn't really help my case but I make sure I get my respect that I deserve from

those who doubt me on the field. Believe me I play bigger than I actually am.

What do you want college coaches to know about you?

The thing is that I know college coaches typically look for guys with a bigger frame. My combine numbers really don't correlate to how I play on the field I am way faster and efficient when playing in a game or at practice. I really work my butt off in trying to make myself a better player and individual every single day. I love the game and play it with a big heart. When I get on that field I am not afraid of anybody even if its a 300 pound lineman I will still go head to head. Coaches who give me a chance I'll make sure they don't regret the decision.

How good can this Antioch team be?

This team in my opinion is more dangerous than the ones in recent years. We have have a great coaching staff with over 150 plus years of experience all combined together. Our offense is looking great and fast. I am very excited to see how defense performs because I think thats where we will excel the most this season.

This is your Senior Season, What does that mean to you?

This year means that I have to give everything that I got. This is the year the team wants to make a statement. We have one goal in mind and that is contending for a state championship. Of course while enjoying it every last minute of it.

What goal do you have for yourself this season?

My goal for this year is to enjoy every minute of every practice, every game and every team activity because this is a game that you have limited time to play. Football is not forever so I am trying to make the best of it.

What do you tell incoming freshmen about Antioch football?

Enjoy it. These are going to be some of the best times of your lives. Time flies by and you don't get much of it. Also if somebody is interested about the recruiting process I would start it as soon as possible.
