Josh Mathiasen York Class of 2020 York 6'4 285

Coach Big Pete's Take

Josh Mathiasen is just an impressive recruit that is gaining steam this spring with college coaches. Great two sport athlete, along with being just a high character player. He is one of my late summer risers that you must watch for.

Josh Mathiasen what schools have you been talking to?

So far I’ve been talking to Olivet Nazarene, Evangel University, Miami Ohio University

What does York football mean to you?

To me York football is based off of family and teamwork because when I was on varsity last year. It was all about who will do what the best it was all individual and are record showed it. Didn’t work out very good but we have a new start this year and we are a big family on the field off the field in the weight room. Everywhere we all have one goal and that’s to win but that’s not gunna happed if we don’t put in the work together.

How did wrestling go for you this season?

Wrestling went very well for me it’s only my second year wrestling and I got the amazing opportunity to be on varsity, wrestling helped me develop quickness. It also helped me get stronger in places I never knew I could be stronger in. It helped me be flexible in ways a guy my size shouldn’t be and the thing I like is that football and wrestling. Piggy back off of each other they both help me with the other sport I finished 26-13, got first in varsity regionals. Unfortunately didn’t get to state but got first in frosh soph sectionals and regionals and 4th at frosh soph state. So wrestling was a big success for me this year

What would you tell a football player who is intrested in wrestling?

That it is worth doing it’s a lot of hard work but that hard work will pay off. You will get in the best shape of your life and wrestling teaches you many things like discipline and it shows you a lot of technique which there is a lot of in both sports.

What goal do you have for yourself this season?

My main goal for this season is to show out on the field for college coaches and to show my athletic abilities and get as much exposure as I can.

What should college coaches know about you?

They should know that I’m committed and I don’t quit. I’m committed to everything I do and I’m always setting goals to demolish my biggest goal is putting my head in the books and in the weight room. I feel like there is always room for improvement and I’m always trying to improve myself. Always trying to find a way to get better with every opportunity I am given.

Besides Sports, Do you have a hidden talent?

Being able to do a full split at 285lb
