Yorkville's Nico Medrano WR Class Of 2019 Talks Fox Football & 2018 Season

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams.

COACH BIG PETE'S TAKE

Nico Medrano is the player that WR coaches go crazy over. Impressive speed, and not to mention he can be used at any spot on the field. Look for Nico in the summer to make some noise, especially on the camp circuit.

Nico Medrano what schools have you been talking to?

Currently have received letters but have not responded to them .

What should college coaches know about you?

College coaches should know that I am a well rounded athlete and person and keep consistent balance in life on and off the field. I also put my team before myself, and ensure that my guys know I have their back whether it’s one play or a life or death situation. I consistently give maximum effort whether it be on the field, in the gym or the classroom, in order to achieve success wherever I wish to have it. Most players can only flip the switch when the lights come on, but I have the killer instinct and the drive to give 100% effort during warm-ups everyday after school during the season. What sets me apart from my opponents is my willingness to put my body on the line for all 11 guys on my side of the ball every play, and make sure I do my job in order for my teammates to have faith in me.

How good can Yorkville football be this season?

Every single year Yorkville football has the potential to be great, and every single year it’s something different that holds us back from just that. This year is different, however. For years, us and the class below us have been waiting to pair up together for varsity, establishing relationships and brotherhoods along the way. Last year we only had a couple guys the team would look up to and that’s what we need, we need a whole team of leaders, a whole team of guys who will step up when their name is called and play like it’s their last time and that’s exactly what we have this year. The final piece of the puzzle, no pun intended, is putting the pieces together. There is always an inconsistency when it comes to Yorkville football and this is the year that the void is filled with something that Yorkville has never seen before. All around the field are guys loaded with talent chomping at the bit to challenge any team without hesitation, that I know think about destroying anything and anyone that comes in between them and their goals. This year, everybody has that killer instinct, everybody has that drive to take 4-14 over the last two years and turn it into a revenge campaign. So if you really wanna know how I feel, you’ll see when week 9 comes to an end and Yorkville will still be playing football.

Favorite memory from last season?

October 20th, Yorkville vs. LaSalle Peru. Going into their house 1-7, and they needed one more win to qualify for play offs, and coming out with a 28-7 win. That to me is my favorite memory not because of any personal performance or the win, but because that game, we really showed what our program can look like when all the pieces are put together. What makes it my favorite memory is that it was tremendously fun, every guy was firing off on all cylinders and played so much fire and intensity and we were just a rolling ball that couldn’t be stopped. Even standing on the sideline and watching our defense not give up any points (their only touchdown was a kick return) was awesome, I’m looking forward to when I can say that this particular game was the turning point of the Yorkville football program, and that to me will be the sweetest memory of all.

What do you tell a 8th Grader ready to play Yorkville football?

Do everything you can to separate yourself from your peers in terms of work ethic and know what you want to achieve in high school. Then when you get to high level football, you’ll be the leader and the one with the vision to steer your team in the right direction, ultimately obtaining the goal you set for yourself years ago with the help of your teammates.

What goal do you have for yourself this season?

Personally, I want to be recognized and remembered as the greatest Wide Receiver to pass through Yorkville High School, and not only this, I want to play at least 12 weeks of football, something that Yorkville has never accomplished. I speak for all the guys on the team when I say this, we have been waiting for this year since we went undefeated in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, us seniors wanna remember our last year in red and black to be just as prolific. Just watch out for Yorkville on your schedules this year, cause there’s a different vibe to these guys this year, and not one of us is being stopped.
