COACH BIG PETE'S TAKE
Derek Freeman is a great run stuffing defensive tackle, some of the best handwork for the class of 2019. Could be considered on of the top defensive tackles for the class of 2019 in the state of Illinois. The scary thing about it is, he still has alot of growing to do and will be one of those late summer risers.
Derek Freeman what schools have you been talking to?
I’ve have been to a couple d2 schools up in Minnesota such as Minnesota St Morehead, Winona st., St. Cloud st. I’ve also visited Illinois st. and have had contact with NIU, UW La Crosse, Mckendree University
What is one thing that you have been doing trying to improve in your game during the offseason?
I’ve been running so I can keep my endurance up and I’m not doing track this year but have been doing my own speed stuff on the side so I can get faster
What does playing for Woodstock North mean to you?
Woodstock North is a relatively new school so I feel like our teams these last couple years have been starting a tradition and sort of legacy by making the playoffs each year and hopefully bringing home another conference championship. So, it means a lot to me because I want to be remembered in Woodstock North’s history
Favorite memory from last season?
Giving Woodstock the goose egg after losing are starting quarterback, Colin Mergl, on the 3rd play of the game and taking home The Brick( it’s a crosstown trophy that whoever wins gets to hold on to it until the next game).
What do you like about playing on the defensive line?
I mean I didn’t really like it at first because I missed playing linebacker and being able to move around more freely and see the field better but I’ve really grown to like bullying offensive lineman so you could say I like it
What game are you looking forward to this season?
To be honest, I’m looking forward to every single game this year. The team this year ‘19 and ‘20 has been talked about for awhile and I just can’t wait to show everyone what Woodstock North is about
