Q&A With Sycamore's Star Linebacker Grayson Burns Class Of 2019
So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams
Sycamore Grayson Burns Class Of 2019 Linebacker/TE 6'2 198
Coach Big Pete's Take
Grayson Burns is one of the faster linebackers in the state of Illinois for the Class of 2019. Ability to spot the play and identify his key is impressive for this young defender. Great frame and ability to be one of the better coverage linebackers makes Burns a highly recruited linebacker in Illinois. NOW... he also can play on offense as well- dont get me wrong, the kid is not afraid to block.
Grayson Burns what Colleges have you been talking to?
I've had the most contact with Penn, Colgate, Holy Cross, Yale, Harvard, and Northern Arizona. Along with a number of other D3 institutions.
Favorite memory from last season?
My favorite memory would hands down be our homecoming win against Yorkville. It was pouring for a majority of the game making our field a mud pit. The entire game was a good hard nosed muddy game.
What is one thing that you are trying to improve in your game this offseason?
I've been working really hard on increasing my overall strength and weight.
What does Sycamore Football mean to you?
To me Sycamore Football means commitment. At Sycamore the expectation is that we win on Friday nights. And after a down year last year it's motivated me to work harder than ever to put myself and my teammates into the best situation to put the program back where it belongs. Anything short of a deep playoff run would be extremely disappointing.
What is one thing you like about playing linebacker?
The physical aspect of it. I love that every play I can find myself it the midst of the action, hitting someone
Is there one Sycamore player that College Coaches need to take a look at?
Honestly I think this year we will have an array of college bound athletes on our team. I believe our games are going to be ones that recruits for multiple positions will want to pay attention to.
What game are you looking forward this season?
All are obviously equally important as of now but the DeKalb game really stands out to me for multiple seasons. Something about that cross town rivalry and on top of that it's at Husky stadium. It'd be really special to bring that trophy back home to Sycamore
What motivates a Grayson Burns?
My pride in my team drives me in everything I do. Whether I'm in the weight room, at a 7 on 7, or whatever I'm doing I try to focus on being the best so on Friday nights everyone can see that Sycamore means business.
