Nicholas Winters Belvidere North Linebacker/ATH Class of 2023 6'1 190
Nicholas Winters how was your junior season? My junior season was great! Ended the season off with 69 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 4 PBU, 7.5 TFL, and one interception. I felt like I had an amazing year but unfortunately, I broke my ankle during the beginning of the last game of the season, so I missed that game and our playoff game. Only way to come back from that is to come back better and stronger than ever! What was one of your favorite memories last season? My favorite memory from last season would have to be when we beat a big rival for the first time in a while. The look on all of the guys’ faces just felt like a great accomplishment! The whole team was so happy and if it wasn’t for the team effort from everyone, we wouldn’t have been able to get the job done like we did. What does football mean to you? Football means everything to me. I truly don’t know where I would be today without it. It’s something I’ve always loved. The thing about it that attracts me the most is the bonds with your brothers that you’ll have forever. The leadership factor also plays a huge role to me because every team needs one or two leaders that can keep everyone's heads up when things aren’t going our way. Also, some of the other teammates look up to you as a leader and that’s a great feeling. What should college coaches know about you? College coaches should know about my dedication, knowledge to the sport, and passion for the sport. I understand the commitment and work that needs to be put in to be able to compete and excel at the collegiate level. What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? I feel that my strongest trait on the field is my ability to read plays and my overall intelligence. Every play I have my eyes set on the lineman reading their feet, then moving my eyes to the backfield if it’s a run or to my coverage if it’s a pass. As a linebacker, you always have to be watching the lineman looking for false steps or which way they open up because 9 times out of 10 they give away the play. How does this Belvidere North squad look for the upcoming season? Definitely solid. We have a lot of new young talent coming in because over half of our team this past year was Seniors. Every player on our team brings something special to the team whether it’s offensively or defensively. Everyone is all in and ready for next season. As a team we are looking forward to making a decently good run in the playoffs this upcoming season. Who else on Belvidere North should I be on the lookout for? I would definitely be on the lookout for our two running backs, Nico Bertolino and Joseph Brown. Both of them are upcoming Juniors and have an amazing work ethic. Last year they both started on varsity as Sophomores and had a great season each. They are definitely going to put in a ton of work this offseason and I know they look forward to having an amazing junior season.
