Speaking With Downers Grove South Senior Defensive Tackle Joe Genna
So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell
Joe Genna Downers Grove South DT/LS Class Of 2023 5'11 230
Joe Genna how is your season going so far? it’s going well, we had a bit of a rough start with some tough opponents at the front of our schedule but after our first conference win against Willowbrook we got the confidence we needed which would help us clinch conference (with a win tomorrow night). For me personally aside from an ankle sprain holding me out of a couple games, I feel like I’ve been doing well on our d line and being a leader to my teammates. What does football mean to you? It’s always been special to me, when you go out for practice and games it’s a feeling that you only get with football, and the bond you build with the team makes it more special. What do you like about playing in the trenches? To me the best part is that it's a battle every play
Who on Downers Grove South is having a breakout season? Ryker Dudley, sophomore nose guard has been a stud so far, and Joey Portell on offense has been great for us at TE/WR. What does it mean to be playing your last regular season game this weekend? I’d say it's pretty bittersweet, game days are always a great experience with the team and I’m definitely going to miss it. What do incoming DGS players need to know about this program? This year we put a lot of work into our culture as a football team, and our guys need to continue that next year and so on so we can grow the program. Leading the younger guys has been a big focus and it I feel that it’s working for us.
