Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Mick Rapinchuk, Downers Grove South, CB/S, Class Of 2026 6'0 170lbs GPA:3.72

Vertical: 28 // Bench: 190lbs // Squat (lbs): 330lbs

Mick, how did your sophomore season go?

Very, very, well. I had a position change from OLB to Safety and I succeeded throughout this season. I had opportunities with Varsity all summer and late fall. The sophomore team improved immensely from our freshman year going from 3-6 to 7-2 including a thrilling win over our rivals Downers North (who we lost to very handily freshman year).

What does your off-season training look like?

This entire winter I had our team’s weight training after school and on Friday mornings. In the late evenings I trained at Get Fast for speed, agility, and strength work. Additionally, my teammates and I got fieldwork on weekends.

You’re a two-sport athlete; how does baseball training differ from your football training?

In baseball season I am additionally training for football. Like for instance, this week I have HS baseball practice from 5am-7am, then I go to school. After that I lift and then go to Get Fast.

What are your goals for the football off-season?

At the beginning of the off-season, I had a goal to gain another 20 pounds this year, which I am 7 pounds away from hitting. I also had a goal to get faster and more agile. Additionally, I have been working to adjusting to my move to cornerback this fall.

What is your strongest trait on the field?

I am not afraid to hit anyone, I prepare myself a lot beforehand so I am able to read offenses well and lead my teammates with those reads. I also know the importance of doing my job and not trying to do too much.

What do you like the most about playing defense?

You have the most control over the game. If the offense doesn’t score, you can’t lose. Hitting people is also a bonus.

Who is one person on your team that is about to have a breakout year?

Safety Coen Godenschwager (Class of 2025 - 6'0/180lbs) and Linebacker Gavin Powells (Class of 2025 - 6'2/205lbs) are always reliable to have a good performance. WR Carter Moravec (Class of 2025 - 6'0/155lbs) might surprise some people this year.

If there is one thing a coach should know about you, what is it?

Everyone will say hard work which I would agree with that. I would say I am different because I have a genuine love and obsession for the game and I am going to do anything to play as much as I can, for as long as I can.

Is there anything else you would like the world to know?

Look out for the Mustangs this year. We are scrappy and physical and have some real competitors and leaders on the team this year. We have big goals that are very obtainable with this group!
