Dillon Williams Glenbard East QB Class Of 2023 5'10 175
Dillon Williams how has your season been so far? It’s been great honestly. I can see our team progressing each week and getting stronger on both sides of the ball. Definitely took a tough loss against a good South Elgin team Week 2 but I’m loving the way we’ve been able to bounce back since then. What does football mean to you? Football means multiple things to me. Since I was 4 years old I’ve had a love for it ever since I first picked one up. I can recall imitating one of my favorite quarterbacks growing up Cam Newton during the flag football days. Not to sound too cliche but it definitely is more than a game, it’s a lifestyle. I believe it isn’t something you can just pick up and choose to do, it’s something that you have to eat, sleep, and work for to be successful. That’s why I love it so much. It motivates me off the field to do great like in the classroom because if I’m not successful there I won’t have the chance to be successful on the field. Another thing is the camaraderie that you build with your teammates, coaches, and staff. The family that we develop is built to be strong even after football and I know I will have that with the guys I’m around everyday. Lastly, it teaches life lessons especially after a loss. It motivates me to work harder and never give up through the ups and downs I go through on the field and how I can use those same lessons when I go through ups and downs in my own life. What has been your favorite memory so far this season? Winning the homecoming game this year was definitely one of the best moments. Our student section was filled and it was one of those moments you had to hold onto while you were there because this being my senior year I knew I wouldn’t be able to get that feeling back. So for sure a moment that I had to savor and enjoy when I was in the moment. What do you see in this Glenbard South team for friday night? I see a strong competitor in Glenbard South. This is definitely going to be if not the biggest one of the biggest games of the Upstate Eight conference in my opinion. Cross town rivals, both only have 1 loss on their records, couldn’t ask for a better game. What do you like about playing QB? What I love about playing quarterback is that no matter if the game goes good or bad the first thing someone looks for is who was leading the team and I believe that is what the quarterback position was made to be. You have to have a different type of mindset to be a quarterback. You can’t just play the position you have to live it. If you ask anyone what the hardest position to play is they will most likely say quarterback but I do believe it is also one of the most glorified positions as well. It’s bittersweet but you have to be able to commit and take that chance to be able to be successful in such a position. You have to see the whole game and can’t just focus on yourself, you are relied on to be the general and who your team can look to when any doubt creeps in and if they see you still have hope that may be enough for them to keep pushing. Who is funny coach on the GEHS staff? Funny Coach will probably have to go to Coach Walters because he cracks jokes all the time at practice, but he’ll be so serious at the same time, so it catches me off guard. Some of the stuff he says when he’s getting on someone about a rep in practice I’ve never even heard before so when it comes out it’s an instant reaction to laugh or smile. It’s always a good time with Coach Walt.
