Elijah Grayer RB Crete-Monee Class of 2023 5'7 170
Elijah Grayer how was your junior season? I think I had good Junior season. I was playing with an amazing teammate, RB Chance Joseph, who is graduating this year and we formed a pretty good tandem. I think I made the most of the opportunities I was given but look to really take hold of that top spot in my senior season. I think what’s important on tape, is that when my number was called, I showed up and the moments weren’t too big. What does football mean to you? Football has been a big part of my life. Growing up Football was a way for me and my father to bond. To have something in common. Something like as long as I can remember. ever since my dad put a ball in my hand as toddler. Ever since than all I want to do was play football. Football became my calm place and I wanted to be great at it. What should college coaches know about you? Like I said, I’m a lifer. My dad has been working be out since before I can remember, running, pushups, hills and bear crawls. I can’t be out worked because of this. Also, I’m selfless. The tape shows me scoring TDs, but you also see me blocking, you see me tackling on teams. I don’t want to come off the field. I want to help in anyway i can. Lastly no quit. It’s not in my DNA. We could be down by 50 and I’m still on the sidelines trying to get our team to finish. That’s who I am What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? The tape and pics don’t lie, you see them guns, lol. I’m strong. You see me taking on 2 blockers at a time. You see I don’t go down on first contact. I think because of my height, I’m expected to be a lighting back, but I’m a bowling ball. I’m definitely thunder and love the contact. How was your wrestling season? It was good but I left some on the mat. My freshman year I qualified for state then Covid happened. I wanted so bad to get back. I’ve made all conference all three years. But the letdown was, I was one match away from state again this year and let it slip. It’s a learning lesson though. Take each moment and make the most of it. You don’t know when you will get back. I’m definitely taking that into senior season. So, you can say I got something to prove in 2 sports. What would you say to football player that is interested in doing wrestling next winter? Do it. It’s not a fluke. I had never wrestled before high school. It definitely helped with my leverage in blocking and my contact balance. But that’s with any extra sport. I started track this year to work on my speed. Use these off-season opportunities in other sports to sharpen your game
