So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Dawson Brown Olney QB/DB/ATH Class Of 2023 5'10 160

Dawson Brown how is your season going so far? The season is going good so far. Our team is 6-2 through the first 8 weeks. We have had a successful season so far after working during the offseason. I am really proud of the way the guys have battled. We are looking forward to getting back under the lights. What does football mean to you? The game means a lot to me. Besides the competitive aspect its taught me many life lessons. It’s also something that has played an important role in the bonds I have built with my teammates and coaches. Football has taught me how to lead through the good and bad times. What should college coaches know about you? They should know academics are important to me. I have a 5.11 GPA. I am not going to expect my teammates to do something I wouldn’t. I want to compete and win the right way. Although I’m undersized I’m dedicated to do what it takes to succeed. I am a student of the game and like the work that comes with it. I believe in my coaches and trust the process. What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? I think my strongest trait on the field is leadership. Being a quarterback, I think that’s an important trait to have to achieve success.

Who on Olney should I also keep an eye out for? Our O-Line is having a great year, made up of 3 seniors (Maddox Dorn, Luke Colwell, and Brayden Brown), a sophomore (Evan Gilreath), and a freshman (Casey Thomann). Our running back Hudson Lathrop is somebody else that has had a great season. Then Ayden Cothern and Zechariah Wease. Two guys on the outside who have made many big plays for us throughout the season. Can't forget our inside linebacker Carter Beard who controls our defense. What does it mean to you that you will be playing your last regular season game this weekend of your career? It is a bittersweet feeling knowing that it will be my last regular season game. It will definitely be nice knowing I have another game guaranteed since we have already clinched a playoff berth. It is something that is emotional to think about, but I am proud of the work I have put in and the career I have had. With that being said I’m not satisfied with settling for what I have already accomplished.

What has been your favorite memory so far this season? My favorite memory of the season so far has been when we had it 4th and goal from the 5yd line, and I scored the game winning touchdown with 5 second remaining in the game. Getting to experience that with my teammates and coaches is something I will never forget.
