Joey Herbert Loyola Academy OL Class Of 2025 6'3 240
Joey Herbert how was your sophomore season? My sophomore season went great! I started at center on the sophomore team and we went 9-0 and won the CCL Blue. I was also voted by my teammates and coaches to be a team captain. During the varsity playoff run I was called up and worked in with the 1s and 2s. I was also able to get a couple reps in during the Plainfield South game and Edwardsville game. How is your offseason going so far? My off-season has been going very well. I started at heavyweight for Loyola wrestling. I took 2nd in the CCL and 5th in Freshman Sophomore state. Since wrestling season has ended I have been lifting and conditioning with Loyola. I have also been working with Nate Oquendo with the OL Mafia, Coach Nate has helped me develop a stronger punch and better my footwork which will impact my game very strongly next season. What does football mean to you? Football has been a big part of my life. It has molded me into the man I am today. Without football I would have not met so many of my good friends. Football to me is family, I know that when I go on that field, I trust the 4 guys across from me with my life.
What should college coaches know about you? Coach’s should know that if I’m playing for them I’m giving 1000% effort 100% of the time. They should know that I’m the guy to trust to get the job done if our team is down by 50 or up by 50 I will continue to play physical and smart. Coach’s should also know that I will know everyone’s assignments on the line and make sure that everyone is ready to go by the time the ball is snapped. What do you like about playing in the trenches? Playing in the trenches is something that I look forward to everyday. Knowing that I’m not even a foot away from the guy that I’m going to war with for the next 60 minutes is a feeling that I can’t explain. Everyone is relying on you to get the job done and either give the quarterback enough time to release it or give the running back a good enough hole for them to get through. If you’re not on your game the whole team will fall apart. What goals do you have for yourself this upcoming season? Next season I have many goals not only for myself but for my team as well. I want to have the best season I can and I know that championship teams are made in the offseason. I am going to work as hard as possible now because I know it will all pay off once the season starts. Some goals I set for myself are winning a 8A state championship, receive All-Conference, and be the best possible player I could be.
