Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell
Mike Gatz Class of 2021 Marian Central OL/DL 6'4 280
Mike Gatz how was your 2019 season?
My 2019 season went very well. The bond we had on the offensive line was very valuable. I was able to develop myself as a versatile lineman as well as learn from my mistakes and improve my skills. Learning from my experiences on the field from last season has helped me to develop into the player I am and allowed me to improve my abilities.
What does football mean to you?
Football to me is more than just a game. Football to me is everything. It provides me a chance to get ahead in life. A chance to escape from reality. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep I am thinking about football. I love the chance to step between those lines, let it all out and just play. The teamwork, the dedication, the sportsmanship, and the brotherhood above all make it the best sport in the world.
What do you like about playing in the trenches?
There is nothing greater than life in the trenches. I give up the stars and limelight for humility and wins. I am sculpted to be a man of violence but a protector as well. The fact that I get to go out there for four quarters and hit somebody every play, knowing that it will not work without the dogs in the trenches, is one of the best feelings. In the trenches there is a “take-no-prisoner” mentality no matter who lines up across from you. The moment we put our hands in the dirt, we become the most important unit on the team. The trenches separate the men from the boys because it gets real in the A and B gap.
What schools have you talked to so far?
I received offers from St. Norbert College and Augustana College. I have been in contact with Iowa State University, University of South Dakota, the University of Wyoming, Winona State University, and Minnesota State-Mankato.
What should college coaches know about you?
I want college coaches to know that my work ethic is unmatched and my versatility is invaluable. There is not a day that goes by where I do not work to improve. My capabilities allow me to perform at center, guard, or tackle on offense or defensive tackle on defense. My quickness and strength are what allow me to make giant blocks and huge plays. I work just as hard in the classroom to be the best student-athlete I can be. I will be the hardest worker in the room, wherever I go.
How does this Marian Central squad look for 2020?
Our team at Marian Central looks solid for this upcoming season. We have a huge amount of talent this year. On both sides of the ball, we have playmakers and athletes who work their hardest day in and day out. It is great to know that we have been working hard all offseason to improve from last year. My teammates and I are excited to get at it this season.
What do you feel is your strongest trait on the field?
My strongest trait on the field is my versatility. I can transition from center to either guard or tackle in a moment's notice and vice versa as well as being able to play defensive tackle on defense. My football intelligence is a huge asset to me. I know what I have to execute every play along with knowing what my teammates have to execute. One of my biggest strengths is my leadership capabilities. I am the leader who leads from the front.
